Jason Collins, the first openly gay player in major U.S. sports, has played his first game in Brooklyn as a member of the Nets. It came as the Nets defeated the Chicago Bulls 96 to 80.
Collins received an ovation from the fans in attendance when he checked into the game late in the fourth quarter. Collins played 3 minutes, grabbed a rebound, recorded a steal and missed his only shot attempt.
"It was a lot of fun to go into the game," Collins said. "The most important thing was that we got the win."
Deron Williams led the Nets with 20 points, while Joe Johnson added 19 points.
Collins is expected to sign a second 10 day contract with the Nets.
