On Saturday, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislature to legalize medical marijuana in New York state.

This makes New York the 23rd state to allow marijuana for medical use, but the restrictions on whom it is prescribed to is considered among the stricter of state legislatures.

There are ten medical conditions in which cannabis can be distributed, and the legislation prohibits the smoking of the drug.
